FAQ

USEFUL INFORMATION FROM THE ATHLETE HANDBOOK

Details may be found in the official Athlete Handbook.

GENERAL

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

HELVETICMAN lies within the triangle of three famous tourist resorts  LUZERN – INTERLAKEN – ANDERMATT.  Start is in Stansstad and the finish is in Melchsee Frutt.

WHICH COURSE IS RIGHT FOR ME?

TRI 113 SOLO is an extreme endeavor but is suitable for all athletes that have completed a half distance triathlon.  HELVETICMAN TRI 113 will have more elevation gained on both the bike and run than most typical half distance triathlons.
TRI 113 TEAM allows for a little less ‘xtreme’ but a whole lot of awesome.  2-3 athletes per team.
TRAIL 42 is a full marathon run for more experienced trail runners.
TRAIL 21 is a half marathon run suitable for all trail runners.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

TRI 113 SOLO / TEAM: You must be at least 18 years of age on race day.
TRAIL 42 & TRAIL 21: Those who are 15-17 years of age on race day may participate if accompanied by an adult.  They must remain no more than 50 meters apart for the entire duration of the run.  The adult takes full responsibility of the minor starting at registration up until they depart from the race or finisher village.

ARE THERE CUT OFF TIMES FOR EACH LEG OF THE RACE?

Yes.  For all races.

  • Triathlon Bike: At aidstation Stöckalp KM81 you may choose to store bike there and take a ride up with the Gondola to  Melchsee-Frutt Transition Zone T2. You miss the last climb which will result in 8km less distance and 50-90 minute shorter racing time.
  • Trail Run: At aidstation Tannalp KM13 resp. KM34 you will be directed to the way back into the finish without the loop to ENGSTLENALP. This will result in 5km less distance and 30-60 minute shorter racing time.

If the full distance is not completed we still allow everyone the opportunity to do a shortened  triathlon and trail run.  The Finisher-Medal will be given to full distance finishers only.

IS A LICENSE REQUIRED?

No, this is a non-licensed event.

IS THIS A TIMED RACE?

Electronic timing will be used.

IS OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE ALLOWED?

Only in designated areas near the official aid stations.

ARE THERE AID STATIONS?

Aid stations are available for all races. The placements and content of each aid station can be found in the Athlete Handbook.

HOW DO I GET MY RACE NUMBER AND DOSSIER?

TRI 113 SOLO and TEAM: Two options

  1. BY MAIL:  Athletes can choose to have the race packet mailed to them.  There is an additional mailing fee cost. Chip/Race Number pick up will be on race day morning. Athlete waiver must be signed and handed in on race morning during the pick up of the timing chip at the transition zone. Briefing: It is required that all athletes read the Athlete Handbook prior to the race and be ready for a short pre race briefing on race morning.
  2. ONSITE PICK UP FRIDAY EVENING: Athletes may choose to attend the official race briefing and packet pick up including timing chip/race number on the evening before race day. Signed waiver must be handed in at check in.

TRIATLHON

HOW WILL I GET MY BIKE FROM T2 IN MELCHSEE-FRUTT DOWN TO STÖCKALP?

After you finish the race you will pick up your bags and bike and take it to the gondola station. The bike may go in a separate gondola car for gear while you and your bag ride down the gondola in the passenger car.  The gondola ride down is free for athletes. Alternately, you may collect your belonging from the finish collection zone and ride your bike down yourself.

THE BIKE COURSE INCLUDES A LOT OF CLIMBING, WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IT?

From a mathematical point of view, the difference in altitude from start T1 to transition zone T2 is about 1,430m. If the way back with the descent would be counted, then it would be 3’300hm to 120 kilometers of distance. The ascents range between 8-14% grade.
